Kirthai-II Run-of-the-River Hydropower Project
The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) recommended in-principle approval for diversion of forest land for the Kirthai-II hydroelectric project on the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir. With 820 MW capacity, it is a run-of-the-river project, generating power using natural river flow and elevation without a giant reservoir. Implementing agency is Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd. It is the third Chenab project approved after Sawalkote and Dulhasti-II since Indus Water Treaty suspension.
