Norway Joins India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative
During the Indian Prime Minister’s official visit to Norway, both sides expanded cooperation in clean energy, climate resilience, blue economy, green shipping, digital development, health and space. King Harald V conferred the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. Norway announced participation in India’s Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (launched at EAS 2019; builds on SAGAR). India-Norway Digital Development Partnership covers digital public goods; agreements also span health and space. India-EFTA (including Norway) signed TEPA. Cooperation includes tsunami early warning and ocean ecosystem accounting. India runs Himadri at Ny Alesund (July 2008), is Arctic Council Observer since 2013, uses Svalbard Ground Station, and Norway backs India’s UNSC permanent membership.
