India to Consider Isobutanol Blending with Diesel
India is likely to introduce isobutanol blending with diesel, assessing its suitability with existing engines and fuel infrastructure. Isobutanol is a four-carbon alcohol (C₄H₁₀O), a higher alcohol than ethanol (2 carbons). It can be produced from renewable biomass and agricultural waste, or via processes linked to ethanol/sugarcane. It is used as industrial solvent (paints/coatings) and potential transport biofuel, blends uniformly with diesel without additives, has higher energy content, and is less volatile and corrosive.
