Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan Scheme

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launches nationwide celebrations to commemorate “10 Years of PMSMA – A Decade of Care”. Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) provides fixed-day assured antenatal care to pregnant women on the 9th of every month, particularly during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

Fixed-day service provision	Mandates monthly antenatal checkups on the 9th of every month at public health facilities.
Service providers	Services are provided by Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists, radiologists, and physicians, with private sector support.
Minimum package	Comprises essential investigations, including 2nd trimester ultrasound, iron folic acid tablets, calcium supplements, and other prescribed medicines.
Service delivery system	Provides for a single window system for streamlined investigations and medicine distribution.
Special focus categories	Covers Unregistered or missed antenatal care women, Dropouts, and High-risk pregnancies.
Maternal health materials	Provides for distribution of Mother and Child Protection Cards and safe motherhood booklets.
High-risk pregnancy identification	Regulates identification via stickers: Green sticker (no risk) and Red sticker (high risk).
Digital enablement	Authorises use of a mobile app and web portal to locate the nearest PMSMA facility.
Programme positioning	PMSMA is a pillar of the Government’s Continuum of Care approach under the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A) Strategy.
