PM-DHARA to Strengthen Intra-State Transmission for Renewables
The Union Cabinet approves PM-DHARA to strengthen intra-State transmission systems for renewable energy. The programme provides for Central Financial Support to offset intra-State transmission charges and facilitates deployment of Battery Energy Storage Systems.
PM-DHARA:
| Dimension | Key Details |
|---|---|
| Full Form | PM-DHARA comprises PM-Developing Harmonized and Accelerated Renewable-energy Access. |
| Renewable Energy Evacuation | PM-DHARA provides for facilitating evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy. |
| Implementation Timeline | PM-DHARA provides for implementation by FY 2032-33. |
| Financial Allocation | PM-DHARA comprises ₹54,082 crore as Central Financial Support. |
| Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Deployment | PM-DHARA provides for deployment of 50 GWh of BESS at locations: sites operated by renewable energy developers or generators, and other locations that are critical for enhancing grid flexibility. |
| Rationale for Deploying BESS | Deployment of BESS provides for: mitigating intermittency associated with renewable energy sources, reducing congestion within the transmission network, decreasing curtailment during peak demand periods, providing electricity supply during periods without solar generation, and enhancing integration of renewable energy into the electrical grid. |
| Alignment with India’s Energy Transition | PM-DHARA facilitates: expansion of renewable and non-fossil energy sources, enhanced integration of renewable energy into the national grid, development and deployment of advanced energy storage solutions, strengthening of national energy security, reduction of the national carbon footprint, and achievement of India’s target of 900 GW installed non-fossil energy capacity by 2035. |
